A small catalogue for a close look. Joel Shapiro: Lithographs 1979–1980 gathers a focused group of the artist’s prints in a slim, illustrated publication from Brooke Alexander and Paula Cooper Gallery.

Published in 1980, the catalogue accompanies Shapiro’s lithograph exhibition at Brooke Alexander Gallery in New York, which later traveled to Delahunty Gallery in Dallas. The exhibition checklist records twelve works, all reproduced here, alongside an exhibition history and selected bibliography. Color and black-and-white images take the lead, with minimal text inviting an unhurried encounter with the work.

A thoughtful addition to a shelf of artists’ books and exhibition catalogues, and an intimate introduction to this moment in Shapiro’s printmaking.
